Dinner with the Missionaries

I had the pleasure tonight of having the Sister Missionaries over for dinner tonight. I meant to take a picture or two, but I enjoyed the conversation so much it totally slipped my mind. It was exciting for me to have the sisters over for a few reasons:

1. Despite being 22 years old, I have never had dinner guests over before and done all the cooking myself. I usually have a friend bring something, or have someone help me in the kitchen

2. I have never had the missionaries over for a meal outside of my parent's house before

So, this was kind of neat. Something worth remembering. If only I had taken those pictures....

I tried a new recipe that I highly recommend, found it over at Tara Cooks

I like to look for rainbows..

That song was one of my favorites as a kid.

The day after my birthday this year was rainy, and a little gloomy. While I was outside, the song suddenly came to my mind and I looked up to see:

a double rainbow.

It was a pretty neat experience. One of those little moments where I got to see God's presence in my life.

22nd Birthday

My birthday was a few days ago. Things have been so wild that I didn't have too much time to celebrate yet. I'm planning on celebrating with my family in a few weeks. On my actual birthday my mom came out for a visit and took me out for dinner. She also brought presents for me with her, which was exciting. She gave me a copy of The Muppets on DVD and Bluray. Expect another post about family birthday later!

On top of an awesome visit from my mom Eric sent me  flowers, which are beautiful, and mostly purple!

and my sweet Ferdie Bunny got all dolled up in purple bows for me

Granted, she did this against her will, for treats

All in all, despite the busy work week, I had a pretty wonderful muppety birthday!

Rainbow Leg Warmers

A while ago I was in the craft store, checking out the yarn selection, when I came across this yarn by Sugar 'n Creme:

I loved it, so I brought it home a few skeins for some unspecified project. Later I became a fan of using leg warmers under my boots, letting the top peek out. I decided this rainbow yarn would be perfect for another pair of leg warmers to use this way. Initially I was crocheting my rainbow leg warmers, but I decided that a crocheted rib just doesn't look as good as a knit one, so I decided to knit them (which was a big deal, I gave up knitting years ago. The result if beautiful.

Now, I only bought two skeins, so they're going to be tiny leg warmers, but they'll work for what I want them to do.

Thanks Dave and Angel!!!

My brother and his wife gave me a gift card to Blazing Needles in Salt Lake over the holidays. They had an amazing selection of soft, beautiful, hand dyed yarns. My brother drove me over there and helped me pick out a few skeins to buy. I decided on a marbled green sort of a color. It took me a long time to decide what to make with it. This was my first time buying artisan yarns. I made a slouchy sort of beenie at first, but it ended up looking like a man hat to me, so I unwound it and tried for the first time forging my own pattern. I loosely based the hat I made on this pattern from Lion Brand. I used it as a guide for when to decrease and how to do a bobble stitch. This new hat is perfect, and does the fancy yarn justice.

Here's a picture. Excuse the messy hair and thermal shirt. Life has been busy lately.

After I made my hat I still had some yarn left, so I made a matching scarf too.

The color isn't quite right in either photo, but it's always so hard to get colors right in photos.

Anyway, I wanted to thank Dave and Angel for the yarn. I had an awesome time stitching up the hat and scarf and I just love the look and feel of the fancy yarn.

The Muppet Movie

Thanksgiving weekend my boyfriend took me to see The Muppet Movie. I am in love. I have been "muppeting out" since we saw it.

I've spent a lot of time on the Muppet Wiki, as well as a lot of time on the FAO Shwarz site making whatnots. I also bought the soundtrack and may or may not have listened to it exclusively for a few days.

The final piece of my obsession with muppets is an obsession with the OPI line of muppet themed nail polishes. I bought "Rainbow Connection" because I'm a sucker for the song and a sucker for glitter. I absolutely love it. I have a strong desire to also buy "Warm & Fozzie". I think I probably will once I get my hands on another Ulta coupon.
